Moeran Road: Ernest John Moeran (1894-1950)

 

Although English born, Ernest John Moeran had Irish roots and collected Irish folk music. He is best known as a composer and was much influenced by Irish and English folk music in his compositions. He is also well known for his church music, with his "Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in D" being a regular for Anglican cathedral and church choirs.

Local pronounciation is "Moe-ran". In his published musical scores he was usually referred to as "E.J. Moeran".
