Entertainment: Gigs

Being a classical musician I'm no expert on the popular scene in Dublin. However, certain venues, particularly pubs, host gigs and especially at weekends. Beware of expensive covers and crowded venues though. The best up to the minute guide may be found on Aertel p370 - most of the venues tend to be pubs and clubs.

A great local festival being promoted in August is the Om Festival, an alternative feast of music and arts on 16 August 2008. It is being held in the legendary Submarine Bar in Crumlin, deep in the heart of one of Dublin's oldest suburbs and well away from the tourist mainstream. Crumlin is only 5 kilometres/3 miles from Dublin's city centre. Take the 150 bus from Fleet Street in Dublin's city centre; the address of the Submarine Bar is Crumlin Cross, Dublin 12.

Two of the principal promoters of major gigs in Dublin are:

Dublin audiences are really lively and you might enjoy combining a visit with a concert or gig.
