Dowland Road: John Dowland (1563-1626)

John Dowland was an Elizabethan composer and, by a long time,is the oldest person to be commemorated in the Musical Roads. A musicologist called Grattan-Flood suggested that Dowland might have had Irish roots (being born in Dalkey, south county Dublin) but this is highly unlikely, although there is a tentative suggestion by Dowland himself in one of his printed music publications.
