Dublin's Point Depot showing 009 departing with a rail train

RAIL 24 PHOTO

There is something very evocative about this picture of a scene long gone. The Point Depot, now an entertainment venue using the shell of the building in the background, was once a major hub of Dublin's freight network. In this view taken on 11 June 1987, fatigued 001 class member 009 is removing a rail train.Note the beet wagons stored as well as the stockpile of used rails. Much of the trackwork was dismantled by this stage although a single track was kept through the depot after it was converted into a concert hall.
