Hazelhatch with 053 in charge of 1500 Heuston-Waterford

RAIL 21 PHOTO

This is one of my favourite photographs, taken from the now-demolished Hazelhatch signal cabin. The train is the 1500 Heuston-Waterford, pulled by '001' class 053. The carriages consist of Cravens, some being repainted into toothpaste livery. The CIE orange and black livery was quite striking and lasted a number of years. The date is September 1984. This picture was taken from the derelict signalbox at the norrth (Dublin) end of the old Hazelhatch station. remember this day clearly - I had cycled from Dublin on this Saturday afternoon as I knew A class locos would eventually be withdrawn from passenger duties.
