October 2003: Sandyford stop with trams

Construction at Sandyford stop; the two trams were carrying passengers during the family open day, October 2003. Note the use of standard railway sleepers on the non-street running sections of Luas. Luas is unusual to Irish railways in that it is built to standard continental guage, 4' 8.5", rather than the standard gauge of 5' 3". This precludes joint operation in the future although the new metro system is likely to continue the use of continental guage. Photo courtesy Fiona Cassidy ©.
