HANDEL MESSIAH TEXT

This is the memorial text on the site of the Music Hall at Fishamble Street

The picture was taken looking through the arch in the previous picture in December 2001. This text was designed in the late 1990s when the rermains of the music hall were 'redeveloped' by the Corporation into accommodation. The text reads "George Frederic Handel conducted the first performance of the Messiah on this site on 13th April 1742 in Neale's new Music Hall." It is a great shame that there is not more to mark the performance of the world's best-known choral piece (the "Halleluia chorus" from Messiah) - Michael Biggs's stunning bronze plaque went missing during the 1980s - 90s.
