Stanford Green: Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924)

 

Charles Villiers Stanford was an Anglo-Irish composer, born in Dublin 2 and famous for his sacred music. His musical style was strongly based upon 19th century European ideals, but occasionally incorporated Irish melodies and idioms too. He is best known for his music for the Anglican church, specifically his service music (Evening services in particular) and also his anthems.
