Moore Road: Thomas Moore (1779-1852)

Thomas Moore was born in Dublin's inner city (less than 1/4 mile from John Field and only three years previously). He is best known for his seminal publication "Moore's Melodies" where his lyrical skills combined with some old Irish folk tunes.

Moore mainly wrote poetry but did also write music, but his most famous poetic offering, "The Last Rose of Summer", uses an Irish folk tune that Edward Bunting had transcribed in 1792 and which Moore and John Stevenson published in their famous Moore's Irish Melodies.
