July 2003: St James's Hospital

This is the point where the line exits the hospital onto James's Street. It illustrates the modern method of constructing light rail tracks, using flexible track rather than tram setts. While there was a certain amount of disruption in this part of the west city area, the overwhelming majority of people have seen the immediate benefits of Luas upon this part of Dublin's city. This is in total contrast to the (very vocal) sceptics who criticised the project from its outset, including Senator David Norris and Garrett Fitzgerald. Senator Norris has modified his views somewhat - having stated that he was totally opposed to an on-street Luas system, he is now (more sensibly) advocating an underground metro system to compliment the Luas.
