YOU ARE HERE: ISOLDE'S TOWER 2

Isolde's Tower, part of the original city wall

Close up view of the medieval tower - it is very dark and consequently difficult to photograph. It is well worth a look though, hidden away in Dublin's medieval city in Temple Bar. Originally, the river Poddle ran around the eastern (seaward) side of the tower and former part of the city wall's defenses. Much of the Poddle was culverted, even by the time the Middle Ages had finished. Isolde didn't too that well either - if you believe the Celtic legend, she took a death potion when she could not fulfill her love for Tristan.
